Resurrecting my blog for the new learning tool, Learning 2.1

Supposed to play around with widgets. Let's see what I can find . . .

To sum things up . . .

23 Things was more fun than anticipated. There was the usual griping about too little time, we have to learn one more thing, wah, wah, wah. But it was fun. Huh! Having fun while learning?

I would participate in something like this again. I enjoyed how tasks were broken down into smaller 'things' and it was self paced. I'm all about the self pacing. We all learn differently.

I learned while helping others I enjoy teaching and supporting my co-workers. I think I bugged everyone into making an avatar. Lots of cool chicks inside these librarians. And I really liked looking at everyone's blogs. Everyone does learn differently and it was neat to see the same lesson interpreted 20 different ways. A lot of insight to my coworkers.

I learned I like to play on the Web. Because of playing with Meez I think I will take a look around Second Life.

Now how to apply all this fun stuff to my work life . . . There are new to me technologies I would like to try to work into our teen programming. Have them do their own podcasts, etc. Our county is rural and most of us don't have access to the higher speeds but in our computer lab we can let the kids explore some of these technologies. I bet I would learn even more from them about Web 2.0 things.

Downloadable Audiobooks

Okay, now this one I have experience with. More and more of our customers are starting to use audiobooks and we needed to familiarize ourselves with the process. Can do. I had never investigated Project Gutenburg- great idea. It's great that all the classics are in one place for free.
Audiobooks are a great resource and I understand the appeal but personally I don't care for the format. I like the feel of the book in my hand and actually reading. Whenever I try to listen I am too distracted by any little thing and lose my place.

Podcasts

Okay, podcasts. I've had some experience with these too but was not overwhelmed with enthusiasm for them. There is a lot of silly useless crap out there. Podcast.net seems to be a pretty good search site. Though one cool use I learned about in a conference with Michelle Gorman was teens doing podcasts of their work- Poetry Slam, Short Story contest. I think that would be cool to do in a teen program.

You Tube!

You Tube is so much fun. Connectivity is an issue though. And many of us in this county live in the boonies with no hope of ever getting high speed. Really frustrating!

This is one of my favorite bands and my husband and I have traveled all over to see them. The Avett Brothers; they are the nicest bunch of boys from North Carolina. Whenever I miss them I can always check out the videos posted by other fans of shows across the country. This is one of my favorite songs. It's one of their more mellow ones. Insert loud screaming "Wooo hoooo, Seth. I love you Scotty."

Okay, I had to add another one . . .
